MCC World Water Day

Today, March 22, is #worldwaterday. Today we honour the important role of water to our livelihood and wellbeing. Our Elders teach us that water is sacred and has spirit, and to thank our water before we use it for drinking, washing, or bathing.

Today is also a chance to remember that in Winnipeg, our water comes from Shoal Lake 40 Anishinaabe First Nation, which has been under a boil water advisory for many years. This community was forced to relocate and cut off from the main land so that water could be diverted to Winnipeg.

Freedom Road is a five-part documentary series that tells the inspiring story of the community's battle to build a road after they were displaced over 100 years ago. Learn more here:https://www.nfb.ca/playlist/freedom-road-series/
