CEDA: COVID-19 Kinship Response Plan

In this challenging time, we are committed to our work in the community while doing our best to follow the direction of the Government of Manitoba to ensure the health and safety of the community and staff. We are also following decisions made by the Winnipeg School Division to support our student education plans. Because of our strong relationships with students, families, and community partners, we know that we will get through this together.

CEDA staff continue to work with students and families while our offices are closed to the public. To meet the immediate needs of the students and families we work with, our staff members are accessible by phone (204-582-5800) and Facebook, and are safely making home-visits when needed, using distancing measures.

CEDA remains dedicated to advocating for students and families. The pandemic has caused further barriers to education and social inequities in the community, including barriers to accessing basic needs and technology for education. We will continue to encourage community voice and advocate for equity in education on this front.

To support the students and families in our community, we have developed a response plan rooted in the holistic philosophy of the Circle of Courage:

BELONGING:

  • Supporting the holistic needs of students and families

  • Ensuring trauma-informed care

  • Facilitating access to basic needs (food and shelter) and to community resources

MASTERY:

  • Building connectivity capacity by ensuring students and families have access to technology needed for their education

  • Building project-based learning skills by maintaining programming online

  • Implementing, in partnership with the Winnipeg School Division and community partners, Summer School and a Summer Enrichment Learning program

INDEPENDENCE:

  • Providing one-on-one and group online tutoring

  • Organizing opportunities for online project-based learning activities

GENEROSITY:

  • Coordinating family supports – ie. food delivery, rent eviction and EI advocacy

  • Helping our neighbours by adopting a neighbourhood senior’s home
